Goalkeeper Jonas Kersken has been loaned to Arminia Bielefeld for the 2023/24 season. The 22-year-old, who is under contract with the Foals until 2025, spent last season on loan at SV Meppen. After starting the first 10 league games for Meppen in 2022/23, the goalkeeper then suffered a shoulder injury and has since been working on his comeback on the sidelines. “Jonas is a promising young goalkeeper. It’s important for him to get playing time at a good level once again. We hope his loan move to Arminia Bielefeld can allow him to do just that,” said sporting director Roland Virkus.
Kersken joined Gladbach as an 18-year-old from Rot-Weiß Essen in the summer of 2019 and has so far made 35 appearances for the Borussia U23s in the the Regionalliga West. He featured five times in the league in his first season, eleven times in the 2020/21 season and 19 times in 2021/22. He has also been between the sticks in one or two of the first team’s friendlies. "Those in charge at Arminia Bielefeld gave me the feeling straight away that they would give me the best possible support in my development and my next steps. That’s why I’m really looking forward to the upcoming season, in which I want to show what I’m capable of," said Kersken himself.
