Fran Kirby got the visitors off to the perfect start just two minutes in, tapping in from close range for her 50th goal in the WSL after Sam Kerr had taken advantage of some sloppy United defending.

Pernille Harder doubled that advantage with a delicate dink over Mary Earps before Kirby and Kerr reversed roles for the third goal, this time the Australian finishing off from inside the box.

There was brief hope for Marc Skinner’s side at the start of the second half when substitute Alessia Russo got one back with a deflected shot off Millie Bright.

But it was that Kirby and Kerr link-up yet again that killed the game off for good in the 51st minute, with Kirby’s cross finding Kerr before the forward took one touch and smashed the ball home for her second.

Drew Spence came off the bench to rifle home a fifth in the 87th minute, before Jessie Fleming rounded things off in stoppage time.

Emma Hayes’ side move above their opponents and into third place in the Super League table.
