Milos Kerkez has revealed some more background regarding his exit from AC Milan to AZ Alkmaar, where he is now one of the brightest starts.
Kerkez’s story with Milan was rather a strange one. He was brought in by the Rossoneri in February of 2021 and there was hopes that he would eventually become the deputy or even replacement for Theo Hernandez.
However, he never came close to making an appearance for the first team and played with the Primavera instead. Then, he decided to depart for AZ in the Eredivisie and sparked some controversy on Twitter after the move as he published a rather distasteful message to Milan, which he quickly deleted.
In an interview with Tuttomercatoweb, Kerkez spoke about his past with the Rossoneri and his future at AZ Alkmaar, where he is attracting a lot of attention given his domestic and European performances.
“When a big club like AC Milan looks for you, there aren’t many people who can say no. I received a phone call directly from Paolo Maldini: the decision was very simple and I took it together with my father,” he said (via SempreMilan.it).
“I was doing well, I had many opportunities to train with the first team, and it was an unforgettable experience. But I decided once again with my father that going to AZ Alkmaar would be the perfect opportunity to establish myself in professional football. We made the best choice.”
