The Kenyan federation justifies its withdrawal by citing conditions deemed unsuitable for the team's preparation.

Kenya will no longer take part in the CECAFA Four Nations Tournament scheduled in Tanzania. The decision was made on Monday, July 21, the very day the competition was set to kick off, following an internal assessment conducted by the Harambee Stars’ technical staff.
The Football Kenya Federation officially announced this morning the withdrawal of the local Harambee Stars from the CECAFA Four Nations Tournament held in Tanzania. This decision comes on the same day the team was supposed to open their campaign against Uganda.
“This decision was made following recommendations and advice from the team's technical group, led by head coach Benni McCarthy, after a thorough evaluation of the existing conditions, which were deemed unsuitable for the team's participation and overall preparation,” explained the Kenyan federation.
While this tournament was initially intended as a preparation camp for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which kicks off on August 2, 2025, the local Kenyan team is now leaving Tanzania. According to the FKF, the Harambee Stars are returning to Kenya, where they will continue their preparations for CHAN 2024 in what is considered a more suitable environment.
