Leeds fans shouldn’t be surprised by Kemar Roofe’s success in Belgium, but many have been wondering why he left for Anderlecht in the first place.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Roofe explained how the prospect of working under one of his idols, Vincent Kompany, was simply too good to turn down.
“I came here to win things. My aims have always been to win titles and cups, to qualify for European football and to play in the Europa League or the Champions League.
“That’s one of the main reasons I came to Anderlecht rather than join one of the clubs in the Premier League who were interested in me. It can be the perfect platform for me to reach my goals.
“When I got the phone call from Vincent Kompany, I couldn’t say no. I’ve grown up watching him in the Premier League, an iconic captain, winning titles, dominating games at centre back.”
Roofe has dazzled to the tune of five goals and two assists in just nine league matches this season.
