Pundit Keith Wyness believes Leicester City will struggle in the Premier League next term, making this prediction on Football Insider's Inside Track Podcast.

The Foxes may have been able to retain some of their key players in the last year, but they were forced to cash in some others and let players go.

James Maddison and Harvey Barnes both moved on to Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United for big fees last summer, with Timothy Castagne also making the move to the English top flight.

Youri Tielemens, meanwhile, left on the expiration of his contract at King Power Stadium.

The Foxes made some excellent signings last year, with Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu both proving to be extremely valuable additions.

But it's clear that there's plenty of work that needs to be done in the summer if they are to give themselves the best chance of retaining their Premier League status for the long term.

They won't want to become a yo-yo team, but their financial situation means they may need to cash in on some valuable players and that would only weaken their squad.

Keith Wyness: Leicester City are likely to struggle next season

Former football CEO has identified the Foxes' extra time to prepare for the top tier as a key advantage for them, with automatic promotion meaning they know which division they will be in next season weeks before those in the play-offs.

But he still thinks the Midlands club could find things extremely difficult during the 2024/25 campaign, saying: "I think Leicester will struggle. I have full admiration for anyone who can get a club out of the Championship. It’s a very tough league.

"But as we’ve seen this season, the three coming up have struggled because it’s a completely different level. I believe Enzo Maresca will find it a lot harder. I don’t know how he’s going to adapt.

"They will have an extra few weeks compared to the rest of the clubs to prepare, which means a lot in the transfer window preparations. They are a Premier League club, and they should be in the top flight.

"Maresca is yet to prove himself in the big league, so the jury’s out."

Leicester City's recruitment will be key this summer

The Foxes may have to follow Luton's path and recruit someone like Ross Barkley, who has been cheap but experienced option for the Hatters.

They may need to make some key decisions on potential departures.

If they can raise a sizeable amount of money from sales, that could allow them to spend, but they can't afford to fork out too much money considering they lost £89.7m last season.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is one man who may need to be sold and if he is, he will need to be replaced quickly and adequately.

If he isn't, that could be extremely costly for the Foxes, so their recruitment will need to be shrewd if they are to give themselves the best chance of avoiding further charges for financial breaches and stay in the top flight whilst being so careful.
