Moise Kean explains why his form has surged so spectacularly since the transfer to Fiorentina, agreeing with Italy coach Luciano Spalletti that he is ‘more mature’ now.

The Viola ran riot at the Stadio Artemio Franchi this evening, as they were already leading 4-1 before Roma defender Mario Hermoso was sent off for a second bookable offence, when Mats Hummels redirected Christian Kouame’s header into his own net for 5-1.

Kean scored twice around the contentions Lucas Beltran penalty and Edoardo Bove went on a slalom through opposition defenders to score against his beloved Roma.

This was the fifth consecutive Fiorentina victory between Serie A and the Europa Conference League, a run during which they scored 19 goals and conceded four.

Luciano Spalletti was in the DAZN studio and praised Kean for his “maturity” in getting checked overnight at the Italy camp before he was released over a back injury.

“He can hold up the ball and run on to long passes, but he is also a hitman who can feel the goal. He has courage and quite rightly a little bit of arrogance, because you need that mentality and character.”

It is certainly a breakthrough season for the 24-year-old, who has now scored seven goals and provided one assist in 12 competitive games.

“I feel stronger mentally, I feel more mature and have people around me in Florence who gave me such a warm welcome. Everyone made it clear from the start they want me to do well, which helps me to train at my best and give my heart on the field in every game,” Kean told DAZN.

Now that Kean is finding his form at last, he still struggles to get into the Italy starting XI because of the extraordinary scoring record of Mateo Retegui, who has climbed to another level since joining Atalanta.

“If he wasn’t there, it wouldn’t be a challenge! Competition for places is good for Italian football, it proves we do have strikers in this country. Plus Retegui is a really good guy, so I’m glad he is doing well.”
