Republic of Ireland captain Katie McCabe has insisted she will be fit for her country’s first ever Women’s World Cup this month.
During her side’s 3-0 defeat to France in a sold out Tallaght Stadium on Thursday night, she exited injured, leading to concerns that Vera Pauw’s key player could miss the momentous tournament.
While running, the Arsenal star appeared to roll her ankle and was immediately substituted – leaving the entire nation with a nervous wait for an update, which she has now provided.
“I’m feeling good. I’ve been for scans this morning and everything’s looking really positive so I’m in a good place,” she told Sky Sports at Dublin Airport prior to her side’s departure for Australia.
“Hopefully I’ll be back on the pitch early next week.
“I’m hoping it doesn’t blow up on the flight! But it should just keep me out for a day or two. I’m feeling good which is nice.”
The Dubliner has 72 caps for her country, scoring 20 times.
