Kate Abdo has become famous for fronting CBS Sports’ legendary coverage of the Champions League.

With Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards as pundits, the quartet often leave viewers in stitches with their brilliant banter.

Abdo most recently tore apart Richards for his less than impressive record in the Champions League, just weeks after she was grilled by the former Manchester City star following a surprise twist to the show’s quick-fire question segment.

But Abdo is not just known for her time with CBS Sports. The 41-year-old has worked in Spain, France, Germany and the US, presenting a range of events across football and boxing.

How did Kate Abdo get into sports broadcasting?

Abdo was born in Manchester but moved to Spain when she was just 17-years-old. She completed her education in the country, also spending time in France and Germany while studying.

As a result, Abdo is fluent in multiple languages, something she has used to her advantage during her career.

With an aspiration to become a translator, Abdo's first job was an internship with German news station Deutsche Welle.

According to an interview with The Athletic, she was asked to try out on-camera despite being an in-house member of staff, and the rest is history.

Abdo was soon hired by CNN in the United States, before a move back to Europe to work for Sky Germany and then Sky Sports in England.

In 2015, Abdo was “loaned” to Fox Sports to host their coverage of the Women's World Cup.

She later took up a permanent offer to relocate to the US and host Fox's Champions League, Europa League, World Cup, FA Cup, and Bundesliga coverage.

Abdo returned to the UK in 2020 to work for CBS Sports, although she does still present DAZN’s boxing coverage in the US.

Working with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi

It is not surprising that a presenter of Abdo’s calibre has been involved in the most prestigious events in sport.

She presented the 2014 and 2015 Ballon d’Or, with stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar watching on.

Abdo has also hosted the Laureus World Sports Awards numerous times.

With the talented presenter now becoming a real hit with CBS Sports viewers, Abdo is more than likely going to be a constant presence on our screens in years to come.
