Karl Toko-Ekambi is close to returning from Europe soon, so who will be his new club?
After concluding his contract with Saudi club Al-Ittihad, Karl Toko-Ekambi has returned to Europe, intensifying his training regimen as he awaits a new challenge. The Cameroonian striker, formerly of Lyon and Rennes, is attracting significant interest across the continent.
Spanish side Rayo Vallecano has now joined the race for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations champion, following reported interest from Paris Saint-Germain weeks earlier. With Europa League football on the horizon next season, Rayo seeks to bolster their attack with an experienced forward available on the market.
Toko-Ekambi's extensive European pedigree has caught the club's attention. The 32-year-old knows La Liga well from his Villarreal days, where he once netted nearly 20 goals in a single campaign and earned recognition as the league's best African player.
While Turkish clubs - notably Gaziantep - have also registered interest, sources close to the former Angers striker indicate his preference remains competing at the highest possible level.
Currently valued at €2 million by Transfermarkt but available as a free agent, Toko-Ekambi presents an attractive proposition. Rayo has already initiated talks with the player's representatives, hoping to bring him back to Spain during this transfer window. The coming weeks could prove decisive in determining the veteran forward's next destination.
