Oxford United boss Karl Robinson has revealed the club are looking to make additions at the centre of their defence this summer.
The club were already in the market for a centre-back this summer, and Luke McNally’s completed a move from the U’s to Burnley yesterday has furthered the need for additions in the area.
Robinson says the club have a deal in the pipeline for one newcomer, and that he is confident the club will get it signed and sealed soon.
“We want to bring one more in and have three really established central defenders, with John Mousinho and James Golding, and knowing Longy (Sam Long) can fit in there,” the U’s head coach told the Oxford Mail.
“We knew Luke was going, so we needed two.
“We’re close to getting one done, we’ve just got to wait for somebody else in another part of the world to get their window to re-open.
“There are one or two complications we’ve hit just through the type of deal that it is, but we’re quite confident we’ll get that one done.
“We’ll keep our cards close to our chest as we always do, because he’s not my player.”

Oxford United get their 2022/23 League One campaign underway with an away trip to Derby County.
Robinson will be hoping the U’s can improve on their eighth place finish from last season.
It makes sense for Oxford to make additions at centre-back this summer.
After missing out on the play-offs last season every area of the pitch will be under scrutiny this summer, and being such a key area, central defence makes sense as an area to look for re-enforcements.
This is even more so the case after Luke McNally’s departure to Burnley.
Indeed, it will certainly be interesting to see who the club can bring in, and which player Robinson has lined up that he is waiting on at present, as he discussed above.
