18-year-old defender commits to Werder

Karim Coulibaly has become the next youngster to sign a first professional contract with SV Werder Bremen.

“During his first year with us in our U19 side, Karim showed why we wanted to sign him last summer. He’s currently showing his potential in pre-season training with the first team. He’s got lots of talent and we’re pleased that we’ll be able to help develop that in the future,” said Peter Niemeyer, head of professional football.

Karim Coulibaly looked back on his first season at SV Werder with satisfaction – and ahead to the future with determination: “My first year at Werder went just as I had hoped. From the very start, the club showed me a clear path. I’m proud and really happy that I get to continue on that path here at Werder. Now I want to make the most of the opportunity to prove myself in pre-season with the first team, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
