It took until the half-hour mark for Real Madrid to break down a focused Cádiz side but within a spell of 10 minutes, the visitors gained control.

Vini Junior was taken down in the box and VAR handed a penalty to Madrid which Karim Benzema converted despite Jeremias Ledesma getting a hand to it.

Two minutes later, Benzema set up Alvaro Odriozola to score his second-ever goal for the club (903 days after his first) and double the lead.

Running hot, the Frenchman’s flair continued to flow and Benzema made it 3-0 after 40 minutes.

After the break, Cádiz got themselves back in the match but couldn’t capitalise on any opportunities.

With the result, Real Madrid move to the top of La Liga and are level on points with Atlético Madrid who play Thursday.
