With one-year remaining on his current deal, Karim Bellarabi is fighting for his Bayer Leverkusen future, according to Kicker.
The 32-year-old played just 792 minutes of Bundesliga football in 2020/21 and 684 minutes last season due to injury. With one week until the professionals return for pre-season training, Bellarabi is fighting for his B04 future.
“Karim brings in components that are good for us. When he played, he gave impetus but he can’t be satisfied with last season. He was injured too often. It’s an important year. Karim is a seasoned player and it’s also important for us that he stays injury free,” said Sporting Director Simon Rolfes.
Competition is also great on the wings at the BayArena. Die Werkself will allow Paulinho (21) to leave but the signing of Adam Hložek (19) and with Mykhaylo Mudryk (21) reportedly on his way – only the final details need to be agreed upon – Bellarabi has competition on the wings alongside Moussa Diaby and Amine Adli.
Bellarabi wants to end his playing career in Leverkusen but he must prove himself. When fit, the 32-year-old contributed a goal every 97 minutes and is still an important member of the squad.
