Chelsea played hosts to Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge earlier this evening looking to earn all three points at home. The Blues struggled to make the breakthrough in the first half and were held to a scoreless draw at the half-time interval.
Frank Lampard’s men enjoyed more of the ball in the second half but couldn’t manage to create too many opportunities to score. The match ended with both London teams playing out a 0-0 draw and sharing the points in the process.
Mendy made a good save to deny Serge Aurier in the first half but was mostly untroubled in the second 45 minutes. He ended up keeping a comfortable clean sheet at the back.
He had a few bright sparks in what was otherwise a lacklustre display from him in the Tottenham half. However, he performed his defensive duties well to help his team secure a point.
Zouma did his job well in defence when called into action but gave away the ball in the dying embers of the contest which went unpunished by Giovani Lo Celso.
The Brazilian centre-back did enough to neutralise the threat of Harry Kane in what was overall an encouraging display from him today.
The English full-back worked hard without creating any meaningful chances in the final third. However, he tracked back in defence when needed.
Kovacic was full of energy in midfield and retained possession well for his side without engineering any chances in the final third.
The French international was a class act in midfield and made some decent chances for his teammates going forward. He didn’t have to work too hard defensively due to Tottenham’s lack of ambition to get forward.
Mount went closest to scoring the winning goal in the second half but was denied by a world-class save by Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris. He ate up a lot of ground with his running at the centre of the park.
The ex-Ajax attacker struggled to give a good account of himself in the attacking third. He was mostly a frustrated figure down the right flank.
Abraham tried too hard but often came up short when going up against the Tottenham centre-backs. He was toothless in front of the opposition goal.
The German speedster had a goal disallowed in the first half as he was caught off-side. He kept pushing but didn’t do enough to get his name on the scoresheet.
He was willing to run with the ball but failed to cut open the Tottenham defence.
The French marksman missed a glorious chance to net a late winner for Chelsea.
Havertz didn’t have enough time to influence the game.
