After reports and rumours circulated both Vlatko and Kansas City Current the announcement came from the Midwestern club earlier today. The former USWNT head coach has signed a permanent contract in a dual role, replacing the outgoing interim manager Caroline Sjoblom.
A two-time NWSL manager of the season Andonovski is held in high esteem in Kansas. Previously leading the helm at the now defunct FC Kansas City. During the peak of Vlatko’s leadership, Kansas saw back-to-back NWSL Championships in 2014 and 2015 respectively.
The KC Current co-owners Angie and Chris Long have gone on record to welcome their newest hire. “We are thrilled to welcome Vlatko to the Current. We talk all the time about our desire to be the best women’s football club in the world, with Vlatko that brings us one step closer to that goal. His football acumen and his penchant for developing talent will keep this team competitive on the world stage.”

The Macedonian-born manager’s last role was leading the USWNT over a four-year stint. Although fans of the famous USA side may not look back on his time in charge all too fondly. Despite a successful CONCACAF campaign in 2022, defeating Canada in the final.
There was disappointment for the nation though, as the USWNT crashed out of the 2023 World Cup in a penalty loss to Sweden. This was despite being tournament favourites. Vlatko reacted to the devastation by resigning from his role and he was soon replaced by the USA in the form of Californian, Twila Kilgore on an interim basis.
