Kane ‘unwell’ but no food poisoning outbreak at Spurs ahead of season finale

Harry Kane should be free to play in Tottenham’s final day trip to Norwich despite the England captain feeling ‘unwell’.
Antonio Conte’s side travel to face the relegated Canaries on Sunday, knowing a point will be enough – given their far superior goal difference over Arsenal – to secure the club’s place in the top four and Champions League qualification.
Kane’s potential absence would be a major blow for the North Londoners, with the England captain having felt unwell in the lead up to the trip to Carrow Road.
The 28-year-old has scored 11 goals in his last 15 league games for Spurs, including vital goals in the back-to-back wins over Arsenal and Burnley.
There have been rumours that there has been a food poisioning outbreak at the club, though they have now been dismissed by the Press Association, with Kane cancelling a ‘media event this afternoon as a precaution’.
Those reports come more than a decade after the infamous ‘Lasagne-gate’ incident in 2006, in which a large number of the Spurs squad fell ill on the eve of their final Premier League game of the season at West Ham.
A 2-1 defeat for a depleted Spurs saw them fall out of the top four, allowing North London rivals Arsenal – again the side competing with Conte’s team to finish in the top four this season – to seal Champions League qualification.
Speaking ahead of the game, Antonio Conte confirmed that there were some ‘stomach problems’ within his side in recent weeks.
“If you remember the last game, we had three or four cases of stomach problems,” Conte said.
“In this week I have to be honest we had a couple of cases but we overcame the situation. Also members of the staff, one day they were not feeling so good.
The Italian refused to comment when asked about the Lasagne-gate scandal from 16 years ago: “I don’t want to know this story,” he said. “I’m not interested to go deeper into this story!”
