West Ham United are set to complete the signing of Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan for the rest of the season, according to Alan Nixon.

The Hammers will pay his complete wages and there is an option to buy in the deal.

Phillips is yet to start a Premier League game for City this term, making only four appearances in total. He has been unable to get a sniff of a starting berth, even when Rodri was injured.

The England international has run out of patience and has been looking for an escape route for game time.

Newcastle United showed interest in signing Phillips. They lost Sandro Tonali to a betting ban, Joelinton is out for the rest of the season and Bruno Guimaraes’ future is uncertain.

However, the Magpies have not moved swiftly, leaving the race open for West Ham.

Phillips will add strength and depth to West Ham’s midfield options which include Edson Alvarez, Tomas Soucek, and James Ward-Prowse.

Lucas Paqueta is out with injury, Flynn Downes is away on loan and Pablo Formals is on the market.

West Ham are also keen to strengthen their attack. Michail Antonio has been out with an injury for months now, leaving Jarrod Bowen to lead the line.

Moyes wants to add a striker, and they submitted a loan bid for Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran.

The Villains rejected the deal, meaning the Hammers will have to turn to a new option, and they have their sight set on Chelsea man Armando Broja.

West Ham will hope to add Phillips, a new striker and maybe another attacker before the close of the transfer window in nine days.
