Kaizer Chiefs have been boosted by the availability of a trio that missed their opening Betway Premiership match of the season against Stellenbosch FC on Sunday, ahead of their second league outing.

The Soweto giants opened their campaign with a commanding 2-0 victory over the Cape Winelands outfit. Nasreddine Nabi’s side has somewhat become a hoodoo team for Steve Barker’s men as they beat them three times last season.

Now, Amakhosi will switch their focus to their next assignment against Polokwane City at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening. The two teams played to a goalless draw in their penultimate league match of the 2024/25 season.

The last time Chiefs claimed maximum points at the expense of Rise and Shine was back in December 2023, courtesy of a Pule Mmodi solitary goal. On the other hand, the Limpopo club beat the Naturena-based outfit last year in December.

While the Glamour Boys will be without coach Nabi, who was absent on the bench in the league opener after having to return to his native country of Tunisia due to his wife being involved in a car accident, three players will be available for the City clash.

New signings Paseka Mako and Ethan Chislett will be available for selection after overcoming their respective setbacks. Meanwhile, Mmodi is also back in contention after serving his two-match suspension.

Mako, who was signed from fierce rivals Orlando Pirates on a free transfer along with Thabiso Monyane, has been declared fit to return to action, while Chislett, who arrived from English League One outfit Port Vale, has received his South African passport and has been registered with the PSL.

Chiefs head into the encounter fixated in third place, behind the newly rebranded Siwelele FC and newly promoted Durban City. The Johnny Mogaladi-owned club is in 10th place after settling for a share of the spoils against Magesi FC in the Limpopo derby.
