According to press reports, Kaizer Chiefs are currently considering making a surprise move and making an actual offer to renew the contract of their star midfielder George Matlou, who has been in fine form for the club.

The player's contract has already expired on 30 June 2023, and it was expected that the club would not support any renewal offer for the player in order to get rid of some of the overload in the squad, but after some credible press reports, it now seems that the news has changed and the club wants the player to stay for a longer period of time as well.

A busy schedule can be a major reason for a player to stay

The player is expected to compete on several fronts for the upcoming season, including the CAF Confederation Cup as well as local competitions, so having the player in the team with the other names Amakhosi found valuable and can be utilised with other players, and it is expected that the player will be part of the squad travelling to the Netherlands this July for an overseas training camp.

The 26-year-old's contract expired at the end of last season and had attracted interest from Orlando Pirates and Chippa United, but his arrival in 2022 seems to have made an impression on Amakhosi, forcing them to extend the player's contract for a longer period of time.
