Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane has reached an agreement to take over as the new head coach of Botswana FNB Premiership side Matebele FC.
This comes after Foot Africa broke the news last week that Matebele have made contact with the Chiefs legend about taking over the reins as the club was in active search for a new leader in the dugout.
Now, an insider close to the negotiations has revealed to this publication that the two parties have reached an agreement on a two-year deal that will see Letsholonyane be in charge of a topflight team for the first time in his coaching career.
Affectionately known as ‘Yeye’, the former Bafana Bafana international is expected to be announced as the new Matebele boss in the coming days, with sources indicating that all that’s left is to complete the formal steps in the agreement.
Letsholonyane is a CAF A License holder and has been part of the South African under-20 national team technical team set-up. Moreover, he was part of the backroom staff in the COSAFA Cup and the CHAN tournament.
In addition, the 43-year-old mentor also held posts at AmaZulu’s Dstv Diski Challenge (DDC) team. Now, he will join compatriot Owen Da Gama in the Botswana Premiership, with the former Magesi FC boss in charge of Black Lions.
Interestingly, Letsholonyane will square off against Da Gama in his first match in charge after the international break. Meanwhile, Matebele claimed their first victory of the season with a resounding 6-2 win over Morupule wanderers to move up to 10th place after losing their first two league outings.
