Kai Havertz’s future at Chelsea this summer could hinge on whether or not they qualify for next season’s Champions League.

The 23-year-old will have two years left on his current deal at Chelsea at the end of the season, and a decision will need to be made over whether the Germany international will remain at the club.

Havertz hasn’t fully lived up to his price-tag of £72 million which Chelsea paid Bayer Leverkusen back in the summer of 2020 to beat the likes of Bayern Munich and Liverpool to his signature.

He will forever be in Chelsea’s history after scoring the decisive goal, proving to be the winner, in the 2021 Champions League final after rounding Ederson in the 42nd minute to tap into an empty net and clinch the club’s second European triumph following the success in 2012.

“To be honest, right now I don’t give a f**k on that, we won the f*****g Champions League!,” responded Havertz post-match at the Estádio do Dragão.

Havertz’s future at Chelsea is uncertain this summer, with the new owners planning a squad overhaul and the attack in west London is already being bolstered following the January arrivals of Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke, as well as the expected summer signing of Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig.

He has constantly been linked with a return to Germany, with Timo Werner rejoining RB Leipzig last summer, but Sky Germany have rubbished any interest from Bayern Munich and insist they are not interested in the 23-year-old.

They also claim the next months are ‘decisive’ over his future beyond this season. Champions League is at the forefront of Havertz’s mind, and Chelsea’s fate will be crucial over whether or not he opts to remain at Stamford Bridge.

Should he decide to leave, Havertz could cost around €60 million with add-ons included.

Joao Felix arrived on loan earlier this month and it remains unclear if Chelsea would try to land him on a permanent deal this summer from Atletico Madrid.

Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech both have uncertain futures, while Callum Hudson-Odoi will return from his loan at Bayer Leverkusen.

With Chelsea’s well off the pace, 10 to be exact, off the top four, if Havertz wants to play Champions League football next season then it’s likely he will have to look for a move away from the Blues.
