Juve have dropped just seven points all season and have been able to hold off stiff competition from a strong Roma, who won 8-0 against Sampdoria in their own match.

Veteran forwards Barbara Bonansea and Cristiana Girelli, both of whom could have a big role to play for Italy at Euro 2022 this summer, gave the Bianconeri a 2-0 first half lead.

Michela Cambiaghi threatened to make it interesting when she pulled a goal back for Sassuolo early in the second half, but Lisa Boattin restored the two-goal cushion to make sure of the win. It means that, with only one game left to play, Roma are now too far behind to catch up.

Incredibly, Juve have now won Serie A in each of the five years since they came into existence, having taken over the license of local existing mid-table club Cuneo in 2017.

This is also the final season of Serie A’s semi-professional era, with the Italian Football Federation recently announcing that the league will join the likes of England’s WSL and Spain’s Primera Division by turning fully professional as of 2022/23.

Juve will complete the league season when they travel to face third-placed AC Milan next weekend and also have the chance to complete a domestic double when they meet Roma in the Coppa Italia final on 15 May – they last achieved the feat in 2018/19.
