Juventus are hoping to pair Timo Werner with Cristiano Ronaldo next season.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who say Werner has been identified as Mandžukić’s long-term replacement.
Though Werner and Mandžukić are very different players, both tend to operate either as a striker or from the left wing.
Already Germany’s first choice striker at the age of 22, Werner is unlikely to come cheap. However, his contract with RB Leipzig expires in 2020, so the club may be forced into a sale at the end of the season. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have previously been linked with the forward.
Werner recently insisted he wants to spend at least one season playing for Julian Nagelsmann, who will become Leipzig’s head coach at the end of the current campaign.
Mandžukić is now 32 and Juventus are aware that they will need a younger forward to carry the burden in the near future.
