Juventus have unexpectedly softened their stance on Dusan Vlahovic’s future, a development that could indirectly benefit Manchester United in their pursuit of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres.

United are firmly focused on strengthening their attack this summer and have identified Gyökeres as a key target.

With the Portuguese forward reportedly commanding a fee north of £85 million, competition was expected to come from Juventus, who have also been linked with the Swedish international.

However, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serie A giants now appear ready to retain Vlahovic, removing themselves from the race for a high-profile replacement.

The Serbian had been widely expected to leave due to his hefty €12 million annual salary and doubts about his role at the club. But the appointment of Igor Tudor as permanent manager has changed the equation.

Tudor is a known admirer of Vlahovic and made the striker a starter upon his arrival, even ahead of players like Randal Kolo Muani.

Injuries limited Vlahovic’s impact late in the season, but his early performances under Tudor—three assists in three games have convinced the new manager he is worth keeping.

New general manager Damien Comolli has yet to meet with the player’s representatives, but talks are expected during Juventus’ upcoming US tour.

While a salary reduction remains crucial for any long-term agreement, Juventus are now leaning towards an internal solution rather than splashing out on a new striker.

From United’s perspective, Juventus’ withdrawal from the striker market could be a major boost.

Gyökeres, who scored 54  goals across all competitions for Sporting last season, is one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe.

With fewer clubs competing for his signature, United may find a clearer path to securing their man.

Should Juventus solidify their position on Vlahovic, United’s main competition for Gyökeres comes from Arsenal, who are in pole position to sign the Swedish striker.
