Juventus already signed one of Manchester City’s full-backs when they swapped João Cancelo for Danilo this summer and it seems they were interested in signing another one too.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, the Serie A champions made an attempt to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko at some point during the summer.

Juve sporting director Fabio Paratici is said to have pursued the 22-year-old but any hope of signing him was lost when City boss Pep Guardiola refused to let the Ukrainian leave.

That show of confidence is said to have convinced Zinchenko to snub offers from elsewhere and in June, he signed a new contract which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2024.

Zinchenko joined City from Russian club FC Ufa for just £1.7m in 2016 but the versatile midfielder didn’t make his first-team breakthrough until the back end of the 2017/18 season, when he was deployed as an auxiliary left-back.

With Fabian Delph leaving to join Everton this summer and Benjamin Mendy returning from injury, the Ukraine international is currently the Premier League champions’ first choice left-back and has so far played every minute of the first four games of the season.
