Juventus announced the squad for the pre-season camp in Germany, leaving behind players including Federico Chiesa, Wojciech Szczesny, Weston McKennie and Dean Huijsen, but Matias Soulé is there.

New coach Thiago Motta named the group that is setting out today for the experience in Herzogenaurach.

They will be staying at the same camp where Germany were based for the EURO 2024 tournament, near Nuremberg.

As expected, there are quite a few absentees, although there are various different reasons.

Chiesa is on the transfer market, but above all is getting married today, so has been given time off and will resume training at the Continassa camp in Turin next week.

Daniele Rugani, Filip Kostic, Mattia De Sciglio and Arthur Melo are all injured, while Szczesny and McKennie have extra vacation time after participating in EURO 2024 and the Copa America respectively.

Danilo, Gleison Bremer and Douglas Luiz are also still on holiday after playing for Brazil.

The real surprises include the absence of Huijsen, who is in the centre of a transfer battle between Paris Saint-Germain, Bayer Leverkusen, VfB Stuttgart and Wolfsburg.

Another unexpected twist is the presence of Soulé in the list, seeing as he is believed to be on the verge of a move to Roma for almost €30m.
