Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has reportedly sent scouts over to Brazil to observe and assess Flamengo defender Léo Ortiz, who is fast becoming the preferred option to replace the injured Gleison Bremer.
According to reports from Tuttosport and Calciomercato.com, Giuntoli has sent a delegate over to South America on his behalf, and as per Thursday’s update, they have an excellent working relationship with their Brazilian counterparts.
The Juventus representative is in town to monitor Ortiz, who joined Flamengo for a fee of around €7m earlier this calendar year. The 28-year-old has chipped in with a goal and two assists from 33 competitive appearances since then.
Ortiz spent the vast majority of his senior career with Bragantino, who were taken over by Red Bull in 2019.
Ortiz also holds Italian citizenship, which means that if he were to move to Serie A, he would not occupy one of the valuable non-EU slots in the squad.
Though Ortiz is a player who Giuntoli and Juventus greatly admire, negotiations will not be completely straight forward with Flamengo.
Juventus have little room in their budget to work with in January, unless other players are sold first. Flamengo are not willing to discuss any discounts given that Ortiz signed less than a year ago and is on a contract until the end of December 2028.
