For the first time in a decade, Juventus enter a Serie A season aiming to win back the Scudetto rather than defend it.
As they hope to do so, Massimiliano Allegri returns to the Turin hot seat, with the club sending Andrea Pirlo packing after just one season.
He delivered success in each of his campaigns during his first stint.
In: Álvaro Morata (Atlético – loan), Kaio Jorge (Santos – €3m)
Out: Cristian Romero (Tottenham via Atalanta – loan), Gianluigi Buffon (Parma – free), Merih Demiral (Atalanta – loan), Marko Pjaca (Torino – loan), Douglas Costa (Grêmio – loan)
As long as he is still at the Bianconeri, the Portuguese superstar will always be the main man and even at 36, he still enjoyed a 29-goal league season last year.
In his final year under contract, he’ll be determined to go out with a bang if this is to be his last dance with the Old Lady.
Pirlo is out and Allegri is back.
But aside from that, not much at all. Gianluigi Buffon left for good this time but Giorgio Chiellini has signed on to stay.
Álvaro Morata’s loan was renewed for another year and a deal has been agreed for exciting Santos wonderkid Kaio Jorge, while the club’s wait for a new starting midfielder goes on as negotiations for Manuel Locatelli continue to crawl towards a conclusion.
