Juventus sack Massimiliano Allegri after Coppa Italia final chaos | OneFootball

Juventus have confirmed the departure of manager Massimiliano Allegri with immediate effect.

Allegri was rumoured to be facing the sack even heading into Wednesday's Coppa Italia final, which was won by an early strike from Dusan Vlahovic, but the real headlines were made towards the end of the match when the Italian boss earned himself a red card for flinging his jacket to the ground and confronting the official.

Reports suggest Allegri then had an altercation with Juve sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli and Tuttosport editor Guido Vaciago, sparking a chaotic end to what should have been a celebratory affair.

"The exoneration follows certain behaviours during and after the Coppa Italia final that the club deemed incompatible with the values of Juventus and the behaviour that those who represent it should have," a statement read.

"It ends a period of collaboration, which began in 2014, restarted in 2021 and ended, after the previous three seasons together, with the Italian Cup final."

"The club wishes Massimiliano Allegri good luck in his future endeavours."

Juventus have already made contact with Bologna manager Thiago Motta, who is their preferred candidate to replace Allegri.

Vaciago, the journalist embroiled in the controversy, accused Allegri of screaming: "S**t editor, write the truth in your newspaper, not what the clubs tells you. I know where to find you. I'll come, and I'll rip both your ears out. I'll come and hit you in the face, write the truth in your newspaper."

Allegri denied the accusations but later worked with Tuttosport's Vaciago to release a joint-statement shortly before his dismissal from Juventus.

"With regards to the events that followed Atalanta-Juventus and regarding the confrontation through the media they had yesterday, coach Massimiliano Allegri and Tuttosport editor Guido Vaciago say that, after talking to each other, they have solved the regrettable situation involving them, clarifying all aspects with collaboration and sense of responsibility," read a statement.

"Allegri regretted what happened on Wednesday night, explaining that he did not mean to threaten or insult Guido Vaciago. So they resumed that atmosphere of cordiality, relaxation and utmost respect at a personal and professional level."
