Weston McKennie has gone from outcast to centerpiece for the second summer in a row, and Juventus are ready to hand him a long-term contract extension after concurring to only bridge deals in previous years, TuttoSport informs.
The USMNT staple has started in nine consecutive Serie A games. He has handled a plethora of roles. In addition to his natural one as a central midfielder, he has starred as a fullback on both wings and as a no.10. He has helped Thiago Motta navigate the absences. He has traded places with Teun Koopmeiners in the last couple of fixtures to better exploit his channel runs. The gaffer even handed him the captain’s armband occasionally.
It remains to be seen whether it’ll be his permanent collocation but, in the meantime, the Juventus execs have started discussing a renewal with the McKennie camp. His current deal expires in 2026, while the new one could run until either 2028 or 2029.
The versatile contributor will enjoy a pay bump from €2.8M to €3.5M. He was supposed to move to Aston Villa in the Douglas Luiz deal last summer. Afterward, Galatasaray and Everton made waves to sign him, but he rebuffed them. He wasn’t part of the group in the early stages of the pre-season preparation as he was on his way out. He was reinstated after his exit fell through and has been remarkably consistent.
It’s about time to cut the charade and lock him down, as he has proven his worth time and time again, even more so under a coach who likes to move pieces around.
