Juventus pull out of European Super League, leaving Barcelona and Real Madrid | OneFootball

Italian football giants Juventus have announced they will initiate legal proceedings to withdraw from the controversial European Super League (ESL), according to Relevo.

The club has sent formal letters to Real Madrid and Barcelona, notifying them of their decision.

Although the bureaucratic process will likely span several weeks, Juventus are resolute and want to depart from the league.

They have taken the first step of communicating their intentions to the other remaining clubs in the ESL.

The breakaway competition launched in 2021 with twelve elite football clubs, including Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid joined from Spain, while Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan signed up from Italy.

The league’s inception was met with contentious events and heated exchanges. UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin announced the potential pursuit of legal action.

Some members of the UEFA Executive Committee expressed their desire to expel ESL clubs still involved in European competitions. The stage was set for a fierce battle.

English clubs swiftly withdrew their participation, with Chelsea leading the exodus publicly. The other five Premier League clubs quickly followed.

Atletico, Inter and Milan also confirmed their departure, leaving Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona as the remaining clubs.

These departures left Florentino Perez, Andrea Agnelli and Joan Laporta assuming leadership roles.
