Twelve minutes.
That was all it took for Lyon to essentially put themselves in the Champions League quarter-final at the expense of Juventus.
Already leading 1-0 from the first leg, they were awarded a penalty early on when Rodrigo Bentancur was adjudged to have committed a foul.
The only problem was that he didn’t commit a foul. Far from it – as he poked the ball away from trouble with a perfectly-timed slide.
There were also suggestions that it could have been given against Federico Bernardeschi for a ‘trip’ prior to that – which also would never have been a foul.
Incredibly, VAR checked the decision and still saw fit to award the kick. And everyone knew it …
It is a decision which may cost Maurizio Sarri his job.
