Serie A heavyweights Juventus and Milan have reportedly joined the race to sign Barcelona-owned playmaker Dani Olmo in the January transfer window. According to Calciomercato, the Italians have identified the EURO 2024 winner as an ideal cost-effective deal midway through the campaign.

Olmo joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig last summer. However, the cash-strapped Catalan powerhouse could only register his contract for the first half of the 2024/25 season. Unable to comply with La Liga’s salary cap, Barca must offload the 26-year-old in the coming weeks, with Juventus and Milan lurking in the shadows.

After missing the deadline to register the ex-Dinamo Zagreb forward for the remainder of the campaign, Barcelona must cash in on the Spaniard. However, they paid Leipzig an eye-watering €60 million to lure Olmo back to Camo Nou only six months ago. Therefore, all interested parties, including Juventus and Milan, will likely have to meet that price tag.

In addition to the Serie A giants, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain have shown interest in Olmo. In all fairness, Milan and Juventus don’t have the financial prowess to compete with these teams. But they could bypass this obstacle by offering Barcelona a loan deal.

That’s not the ideal scenario for Hansi Flick’s side. Yet, it would at least allow Barca to temporarily get Olmo’s wages off their books. Meanwhile, Milan could use a player of Olmo’s caliber to bolster Sergio Conceicao’s attacking options after losing Rafael Leao to injury.
