Juventus jumped to the top of the Serie A table with an impressive 1-0 victory over reigning champions Napoli.

Juventus will feel lucky to have made it to half-time with the scoresheet untouched, as Napoli squandered a flurry of quality chances in front of Wojciech Szczęsny’s goal.

The best of the chances fell to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who got in behind the Juve backline, but the Georgian inexplicably sent his point-blank chip far over the crossbar.

Juve came out of the halftime break a changed team, and they snatched the lead just after five minutes through Federico Gatti, who leapt above the Napoli defence to head home at the back-post.

Napoli forced the issue in the final 30 minutes in search of an equaliser, but the sturdy Juventus rearguard remained solid in the face of the pressure.

The gutsy victory takes Juventus back to the top of the Serie A table, but Inter have a game in hand to be played this weekend.

Meanwhile, Napoli’s slump continues. Friday night’s loss in Turin was the champions’ third in their last five games.
