Juventus veteran Leonardo Bonucci is now set to head to the Bundesliga and join Union Berlin.
A total of three sides were keen on the defender and that included Union, Genoa and Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio. With Bonucci’s fate at Juve sealed, he has now made a decision.
Gianluca di Marzio has reported that after contacts were made by both Genoa and Lazio, Bonucci has made the decision to step away from Serie A and join Union. Talks are at a very advanced stage and as part of the negotiations, no transfer fee will be paid but Union will pay the severance pay to terminate Bonucci’s contract at Juve.
Alessandro Lucci had been working to define the move for the last 30 days and it is now expected to go through, with the Italian now looking set to play in the Champions League this season.
Bonucci had not travelled with the Bianconeri squad to the United States for the pre-season friendlies and a legal battle had ensued, but his situation is now being close to sorted out.
