Blow for Manchester United as Juventus plan new Cristiano Ronaldo deal

According to Calciomercato (h/t Express), Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their hopes of bringing former star and club icon Cristiano Ronaldo back from Juventus.

The 35-year-old earned his spurs at Manchester United before becoming the megastar that he is today. The iconic former No.7 spent six years at Old Trafford between 2003 and 2009, before leaving for Real Madrid.

Ever since he left, rumours of a return to Manchester United keep doing the rounds in every transfer window. After nine years in Spain, the Portuguese maverick signed for Juventus. And he has continued in his prolific ways in Italy as well, despite being 35 years old.

Ronaldo still has 18 months left on his current contract with Juventus. However, there have been speculations that Manchester United are looking to bring him back to the club as a part of a deal that would see Paul Pogba move to Italy.

There have also been claims that sponsor Chevrolet are willing to bankroll a move to secure the Portuguese international’s return to Old Trafford.

However, any hopes of Manchester United signing Ronaldo back from Juventus have now been dealt a major blow. This is because the Serie A champions are planning to hand him a new contract.

The new deal would see Ronaldo get an extension of another twelve months on his current contract. And the Bianconeri are expecting talks of the new deal to go through smoothly. (h/t Express)

Manchester United could well try to sign him when his contract expires in 2023. But, Ronaldo will be 38 years old by that time and might not be performing at this level anymore. So we might not get to see the Portuguese superstar don the Red jersey and walk out at Old Trafford again.
