Juventus midfielder Theun Koopmeiners could use a ‘special protection’ to drastically reduce his recovery time after his recent rib injury, as a member of the Bianconeri’s medical staff didn’t rule out the possibility of having him back for their next game against Lazio.
The Dutch midfielder couldn’t travel with The Netherlands national team during the international break as he underwent medical tests last Thursday that confirmed a ‘slightly dislocated second right anterior rib fracture’, which should normally keep a player out of action from three to four weeks.
However, Sky Sport Italia reported that Juventus are assessing a solution which could shorten Koopmeiners’ recovery, allowing him to be back on the pitch ahead of schedule.
Theun Koopmeiners will be testing a ‘special protection’ when he starts training again in the next few days to see whether he can play despite having picked up a slight rib fracture.
As explained by Sky Sport Italia, the midfielder should wear a protective corset that will serve as an ‘armour’ to shield his ribs from potential blows, allowing him to play safely.
If Koopmeiners doesn’t feel too much pain, Juventus could have him back for their Champions League fixture against Stuggart in less than two weeks.
However, Il Bianconero reported that the head of the Bianconeri’s medical staff, Luca Stefanini, didn’t rule out the chance of watching the Dutch midfielder in action already during their game against Lazio right after the international break, as he claimed it “will only depend on the pain”.
