Juventus are actively considering a move for Sporting midfielder Morten Hjulmand, with the Denmark international expressing his desire to leave Lisbon this summer, according to Corriere dello Sport as cited by Tutto Juve.
Hjulmand, who previously featured in Serie A with Lecce, has become a central target for Juventus as they look to reshape their midfield under new direction. The most significant recent development is the 25-year-old’s request to depart Sporting, a move thought to be motivated in part by the January exit of manager Ruben Amorim. This request could fundamentally alter the landscape of negotiations, forcing Sporting to reconsider the terms of any sale.
Previously, Sporting had insisted on the full payment of Hjulmand’s €80 million release clause. Now, Hjulmand’s stance is expected to push the Portuguese club towards a more pragmatic asking price. This opens the door for Juventus, who have monitored him for some time but hesitated at such a high valuation, to present an official bid in the current transfer window.
Corriere dello Sport’s report, relayed by Tutto Juve, highlights that Hjulmand remains among the priorities for Juventus’s midfield rebuild. Club management sees the Dane’s attributes—physicality, distribution, and Serie A experience—as a strong match for the squad’s evolving needs.
Competition for central midfield signings is intense this summer, with Juventus also linked to other profiles including André from Fluminense. However, the interest from major clubs in André, notably Liverpool and Manchester United, means Juventus could shift focus to Hjulmand if negotiations with Sporting prove feasible.
Contacts between Juventus and Sporting have not yet reached an advanced stage, as the Italian side weighs up multiple midfield options. But with Hjulmand now officially seeking an exit and Sporting potentially forced to lower their demands, developments are expected in the coming weeks.
Any move for Hjulmand would reinforce Juventus’s strategy to blend Serie A familiarity and fresh energy into the engine room of the team, after a mixed campaign and coaching changes at both Juventus and Sporting in the past year.
