Juventus director Francesco Calvo has denied the rumours that the club is looking to terminate Paul Pogba’s contract.

After arriving on a much-anticipated free transfer from Manchester United in the summer, Pogba has endured a disappointing season, sitting out all the games through injury before returning against Torino at the end of February.

However, the situation has gone from bad to worse for the French midfielder after suffering a muscular injury ahead of the Sampdoria clash last week, which is likely to keep him out of action for several weeks.

It has led to rumours that the Bianconeri have grown weary of Pogba’s situation and want to cancel his contract.

However, Calvo has shrugged off the speculation, insisting that the Old Lady are by Pogba’s side through this tough period and waiting for his return to action.

“Pogba is the first to be upset with this situation and the latest injury,” Calvo told Sky Sport Italia (h/t Football Italia). “I think when you talk about great players, everything is emphasised, both in positive and negative.

“I read these headlines in the newspapers saying Juventus are ready to dump Pogba. Absolutely not. Paul came to us first at the age of 19 – it has been 11 years since then. He knows Juventus is like a family that gives and also expects in return.

“The important thing is that he is putting in the effort and we wait for him to be able to do that on the field too. We believe in Pogba or we wouldn’t have signed a four-year contract with him.

“We talk to the player on a daily basis, he knows we are by his side, just as both he and us are not happy with the situation.”

Academy stars Fabio Miretti and Nicolo Fagioli have capitalised on their opportunities in the absence of Pogba, growing into key members for Massimiliano Allegri this season.

Adrien Rabiot has taken more onus in the midfield this season, producing consistent displays, unlike the previous campaigns. He has netted seven goals and two assists in 22 Serie A games.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star’s future is hanging in the balance, with his contract expiring in the summer.
