Massimiliano Allegri could ask Juventus to get him a new midfielder in the January transfer window and Granit Xhaka is apparently top of his list.

Granit Xhaka was supposed to sign for Roma in the summer just past.

Few, however, expect Xhaka to see out that contract, which lasts until 2024, although even fewer expected him to still be an Arsenal player as the 21/22 season got underway.

Tuttomercatoweb in Italy report that not only could Juve move for Xhaka, they could also offer the £22.5m-rated central midfielder, Weston McKennie instead of cash.

The US national spent last season on loan with Juventus before they purchased him permanently from Schalke in the summer, paying £18.45m for the privilege.

And now they want rid of the 23-year-old to sign Granit Xhaka?

Seems unlikely, but it also seems like a deal could have been in place before Allegri returned to the Old Lady at the end of May.

TMW say that McKennie is ‘not particularly appreciated’ by the Juventus’ head coach which would be odd if he’d only just purchased him.

McKennie made 46 appearances for Juventus last season under Andrea Pirlo, scoring six, assisting four and picking up five bookings.

Xhaka, to compare, made 45 appearances for Arsenal, scoring one and assisting two while picking up eight yellow cards and one red.

Granit Xhaka will serve the final match ban of the three-game suspension he picked up against Manchester City when Arsenal play AFC Wimbledon in the EFL Cup.

That means he’s free and available to be selected against Spurs at the weekend.

Woop.
