Andrea Agnelli has told Reuters that the Super League can no longer progress after six English clubs exited the competition overnight.
The Juventus chief was one of the main drivers behind the breakaway division having resigned as chair of the European Clubs Association on Monday.
But in an astonishing u-turn, the Italian has conceded that his dream of a pan-European league is no longer achievable after the ‘big six’ in England decided against joining on Tuesday evening.
Asked by Reuters if the Super League can go ahead after six of its founding members left, Agnelli replied: “To be frank and honest, no… evidently, that is not the case.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Liverpool owner John W Henry issued an apology to fans of the Anfield side, admitting that he had “made a mistake” in attempting to join the Super League.
