Juventus CEO Maurizio Scanavino is confident at the start of this ‘new’ project, explains what Giorgio Chiellini brings, but is ‘talking to’ Paul Pogba’s entourage about his situation.

The Bianconeri completely revamped their board of directors after the financial accounting scandal that saw them docked Serie A points and excluded from Europe last year.

That also saw a radical change of direction from the Andrea Agnelli era, which today includes returning to the European Club Association.

Scanavino was at the meeting with new member of Juventus staff Chiellini, who took the role following his retirement.

“Giorgio was able to unite his experience as a football player with other interests,” Scanavino told Sky Sport Italia.

“He studied, speaks a few different languages, has interest in marketing and digital worlds, so is an important resource who is eager to keep growing in his new areas of interest.

“Chiellini can also represent an example for other players who are still in activity and perhaps haven’t decided what they want to do in future.”

The Italy international is one of several players who studied during their playing careers, earning a Masters Degree in Business Administration in 2017.

Juventus embarking on a new era without Pogba

The changes are happening on the field too, where Juventus have started under new coach Thiago Motta, winning both Champions League games, even if their Serie A form has stuttered a little more.

“We are very satisfied, albeit with disappointment for the draw with Cagliari. We’re at the start of a new path that began very well and I am glad to be close to the team during these formative moments,” added Scanavino.

The squad does not include Pogba, but that could well change, because he partially won his appeal against a ban for failing a doping test and it was reduced to 18 months.

That means the France international could in theory play for Juventus from March 2025, but the club seems to be leaning towards a termination by mutual consent of the contract instead.

That was made clear by both director Cristiano Giuntoli and coach Thiago Motta using the past tense when describing his playing career.

“We are talking to his entourage. Pogba is a great player and he certainly can still play. However, between injuries and bans, he effectively hasn’t really played for two years,” concluded the CEO.

“These are all elements we need to evaluate and I can confirm we are talking to his staff.”
