The Bianconeri have moved fast to appoint their former midfielder, who was originally set to take charge of the club’s U23 side next season.

Pirlo has signed a two-year contract until June 2022.

In an official statement on the club’s website, Juventus stated: “Today’s choice is based on the belief that Pirlo has what it takes to lead an expert and talented squad to pursue new successes.”

He helped Juventus win four Scudettos and the Coppa Italia during his four-year stay between 2011 and 2015.

Pirlo made over 150 appearances for the club, scoring 19 goals and laying on over 35 assists.

The 41-year-old also has two Champions League medals to his name, picked up at Milan, while he was a key cog in the Italy side that lifted the 2006 World Cup.
