Juventus won their eighth successive Serie A title, spent €100m on a five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
But there was still trouble in paradise and their year ended with coach Massimiliano Allegri exiting.
Here’s what we made of their season.
Juventus’ season started with a bang after they somehow managed to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.
Eyebrows were raised at the fee, but as usual, the perfectly sculpted forward delivered.
Thirty goals in 42 appearances across all competitions, influential in their Serie A triumph and almost singlehandedly got them through in the Champions League.
Douglas Costa is such a difficult player to judge. Mercurial at the best of times, but equally capable of extraordinary things.
This season was a complete write off.
Injured, inconsistent, ineffective. Completely lost the faith of his manager and managed just one assist all campaign.
Allegri had a difficult job on his hands. The Bianconeri are expected to win Serie A every year, even before the season even starts.
And while that should be their minimum, it’s tough to keep minds and bodies fresh when presented with real competition.
But that shouldn’t excuse their underperformance in Europe and the domestic cups.
Allegri, usually so competent at managing his squad, was found out this time and it ended with him being moved on.
Adding quality to their already impressive spine, both on the field and in the dugout following Allegri’s exit.
Wojciech Szczesny has improved massively and should continue in goal, but in defence, midfield and attack – it feels as if something is missing.
They have already secured Aaron Ramsey on a free transfer, but marquee signings at centre back and up front could could take them to another level.
The emergence of Moise Kean, however, has been a huge positive.
