Despite dominating the statistics on the pitch, Juventus had to dig deep in order to beat Empoli on Sunday.

With 18 attempts to seven from the hosts (who also had zero on target), the visitors were in control of the match but didn’t look so convincing over 90 minutes.

Danilo opened the scoring after getting on the end of a loose ball, and there could have been another to ease the pressure, but Dusan Vlahovic saw his penalty saved.

Coming out into the second half the match was still up for grabs and Paul Pogba thought he had added a second for the visitors however the goal was ruled out.

Fortunately for Max Allegri (who would have been sweating on the sidelines), a late blistering run from Federico Chiesa ensured Juve walked away with all three points as he rounded the goalkeeper for 2-0.

Looking at the standings, the Bianconeri sit third, two points off top spot, while Empoli are bottom of the table.

Inter dismantle Fiorentina

Scorers: Thuram 23′, Lautaro 53′, 73′, Çalhanoğlu 58′ (P)

The departures of Romelu Lukaku and Edin Džeko prove to be no issue for manager Simone Inzaghi as his new attacking duo stole the show.

Inter hosted Fiorentina inside a rocking San Siro and pulled off an impressive win despite only 40% possession on home turf.

New signing Marcus Thuram scored his first for the club with a darting header truly worthy of the No. 9 kit.

And while the match remained 1-0 at the break, Fiorentina failed to find a way to claw back into the game and Inter punished them for it.

Thuram eventually teed up attacking partner Lautaro Martinez for 2-0 before the captain split two visiting defenders and redirected home his second of the night. He now has five goals in three games this season.

A Hakan Çalhanoğlu penalty was sandwiched in-between thanks to Thuram, and Inter sit top of the table with a perfect record, eight goals scored and zero conceded.

Fiorentina’s puzzling performance will force them back to the drawing board as Nicolás González and company failed to show any true hunger over 90 minutes.
