A better season in Europe has to be one of the club’s targets next term. Just aiming to be in the group stages of the Champions League isn’t enough. Being strong enough to make it into the knockout rounds has to be a target, particularly after that painful experience in the 2022/23 season.

This will be the first summer transfer window for Philippe Clement. He’ll know that there’s not a massive transfer budget available to him. Therefore, what money is spent must be used wisely and in a productive manner.

One possible signing is winger Jhon Arias who is currently playing for Fluminense in Brazil’s Serie A. He could well become the latest South American to make his way to European football. The Colombian international has a busy summer ahead of him with the Copa America tournament taking place.

He’s under contract with them until 2026 so any deal is likely to also include a percentage of any future transfer. There’s likely to be some opposition to sign him but we can but hope he fancies swapping Brazil for Scotland.

Boosting the attacking nature of the midfield would certainly help Rangers. Eduard Spertsyan of Krasnodar is a possible summer signing. A close eye has been kept on the 23-year-old Armenian international.

Of course, there are several other clubs who wouldn’t mind signing him. That list includes Celtic and the Dutch trio of PSV, Ajax (who will want a better season than the one they’re currently having) and Feyenoord.

Loan deals are important in football these days. At present, Rangers have Fabio Silva on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers. It’s a deal that is due to come to an end at the conclusion of the current season.

Will Rangers decide to extend his loan or even sign him on a permanent basis? He hasn’t exactly set Ibrox alight and his lack of goals is a major concern. It may well be that he’s on his way out of Ibrox rather than extending his stay.

Then there’s Sam Lammers who is currently on loan at FC Utrecht in the Dutch Eredivisie He’s been in great form and the Dutch side are hopeful of making it a permanent deal. If he’s playing that well, then perhaps he should return to Ibrox for next season.

Another possible signing could be Belgian goalkeeper Arnaud Bodart. Could he be on the way from Standard Liege, only time will tell.
