In what could be a huge blow for FC Barcelona, RAC1 is reporting that key midfielder Pedri is definitively ruled out of the game against Real Madrid due to injury.
Pedri has been out on the sidelines since late August due to a thigh injury. The midfielder was expected to make a return from his spell on the treatment tables soon after the international break, but that has not materialised.
While Xavi has claimed that there has been no relapse in his recovery, Pedri is yet to train with the first team four days away from El Clasico.
There has been lingering hope that the 20-year-old could recover in time to face Real Madrid at least as a substitute if not a starter.
However, now, RAC1 is claiming that Pedri has been definitively ruled out of the match against Carlo Ancelotti’s men, which will be a big blow for the Catalans.
Even though Barcelona have fared well in Pedri’s absence over the past couple of months, there is no denying the quality and the value he adds to Xavi’s team.
Having him available for a match as big as the first El Clasico of the season would have been crucial for Barça’s chances.
However, Xavi & co. will once again have to cope without the 20-year-old’s services when Real Madrid come visiting to Montjuic on Saturday.
The report also provides an update on the situation of the other injured players, claiming that Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, and Frenkie de Jong have some chance of making it in time for the Clasico, in that order.
Sergi Roberto and Jules Kounde have already been ruled out of the contest and it now appears that Barcelona will also have to make do without Pedri.
