On Wednesday, reports emerged claiming that FC Barcelona were on the verge of reaching an agreement to terminate the contract of Oriol Romeu.
Building on that, RAC1 now reports that the two parties have indeed reached a full agreement to go their separate ways by breaking his contract, which would have expired in 2026.
Romeu has been at Barça since 2023, arriving from Girona as a replacement for Sergio Busquets. However, despite a fairly solid start, he quickly faded into the background.
Following Hansi Flick’s arrival last year, the veteran midfielder was shipped out on loan to Girona and upon returning this summer, it was made clear to him that he was not part of the plans for the future.
As such, Romeu’s exit was always a given, with the midfielder not even travelling to Asia with the rest of the squad for the pre-season tour.

And after several rounds of negotiations, Barcelona and the player have finally reached an agreement to sever ties by terminating his contract.
Romeu will now move on as a free agent, with a part of his wages for the remaining year of the deal being paid by Barcelona.
His imminent exit, coupled with the loan departure of Inaki Pena, announced earlier this week, is set to free up around €4 million in Fair Play margin for Barcelona.
It should help the Catalans secure some of the remaining pending player registrations in time for the weekend La Liga clash against Rayo Vallecano.
As for Romeu, his next destination remains unclear, with the player attracting interest from clubs in La Liga as well as the MLS in the USA.
