After all the transfer drama, Barcelona priority target Nico Williams has opted to continue with his current team, Athletic Club for one more season.

This information comes from journalist Pedro Morata of COPE, who reports that the 22-year-old’s agent, Felix Tainta, has informed the player’s other suitors, PSG, that he intends to stay with the Basque club for the upcoming season.

Nico, 22, enjoyed an excellent last season with club and country, winning the Copa del Rey with Athletic Club and going on to help Spain lift the UEFA Euro 2024.

Barcelona, in search of a dynamic left-winger, made the Spaniard their top target, with Joan Laporta & co. going all out for his signing.

Meanwhile, PSG, too, showed a great interest in the Athletic Club speedster as they sought him as a replacement for Kylian Mbappe.

Both clubs had tabled contract offers for Nico and were prepared to activate his release clause which stands at €58 million.

It has been reported that Nico had already turned down the possibility of joining PSG as he intended to stay in Spain.

Now, it appears that Felix Tainta has confirmed to PSG officials that the winger will be continuing at Athletic Club for one more year.

Barcelona might have also been made aware of the same considering that they are going hard after the signing of Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig.

It has been suggested that the Blaugrana might be willing to go for Nico again next summer, provided his release clause amount does not increase. For now, though, it appears that he will not be joining Barcelona right now.
